Santa Rosa Marathon Eve. Weather looks great for 6AM start!
Santa Rosa Marathon Race week - new kicks! I have been in a funk since yesterday (taper crazies???). I am resting and hydrating like a mad woman but instead of feeling good I just feel ‘bleh’. I wanted to spin this morning but had to go into work early instead. The good news is that I work out with the devil trainer tomorrow morning. Other good news, these hot pink/hot orange new shoes. My current shoes have seen better days. I heart New Balance!
Just a bit of marathon weather stalking. The good news is that the marathon starts at 6AM. Praying for an overcast Wine Country morning!
I thought I ran 4.75 easy but my sweat soaked tank top says otherwise. Tomorrow last long run before marathon - 10 miles on Backbone trail with @robbsrunning and @happyfitrunnergirl!
9 days? Where did the time go? My legs feel good. I am not feeling the taper crazies (did I just jinx myself?). Maybe it is because I have not tapered in a normal way. I have traveled, hosted my inlaws for 5 days, and worked like crazy. Specific taper? Not so much. I would say this taper is called ‘life’.Workouts this week: Sun spin, Mon rest Tues am 6.25 tempo pm 4.75 easy Wed rest Thurs am 6 mi pm 1 mi run + 1hr TRX/HIIT with devil trainer Fri rest Sat 8 mi easy
I began my running career seven years ago with a large running club, the LA Leggers. It was an awesome experience. I stayed with the club for 4 years, 2 years as group mentor and 2 years on the board of directors. These days I run on my own or in small groups. I love running with new people so when a person I do not know very well asks to meet up for a run, I (almost) always say yes. This morning I ran with someone new and it was great! I had a completely different view of the person going into the run than when we finished. You learn a lot about a person when you hit the pavement/trails together. Sometimes it is difficult to have an open mind about people but if you do, they might just surprise you!
Ran 4.75 mi along the beach and it did not suck! I still feel like a stay puff marshmallow but overall I will call the run a win. 10.86 mi for the day. I know it is taper time when I feel like a stay puff marshmallow. My body knows the marathon is 12 days away!
Tempo Tues. This photo says it all. Run began at 5:15AM. I started sucking wind about 10 min into the run even though I ran :30 slower per mile. Some runs just feel terrible and this was one of those. Let’s hope my 2nd run this afternoon is easier!
It was such a beautiful morning! We saw tons of dolphins frolicking in the Santa Monica bay. I had never seen such a big pod so close to shore. The 12 miler felt good. I feel cautiously optimistic about the marathon in 2 weeks. Bring on marathon 18!
Another DC run. 3 easy miles to the White House and back. I never tire of running by the White House. One more run in DC tomorrow before I head back to Los Angeles.
