Marathon Eve- LA 2012 “Luck of the Irish” Edition

It is the eve of marathon number 15, my fifth LA Marathon, marking the 6th year of of my running career. I have missed one LA marathon in 6 years, the 2009 edition that was held on Memorial Day. It happened to be the year that my sister finished grad school and her graduation was the same weekend as the marathon. I am not sad that I missed that race. I was not a fan of the old LA marathon course and much prefer the stadium to the sea route.
I had a really hard time sleeping this week. I think a combination of the taper crazies and work crazies fueled the insomnia. There has been a lot going on as of late. As I laid awake in bed at 1:30AM last night/early this morning, I thought about how far I have come in the last 6 years. If all goes according to plan, my 5th LA Marathon will be almost 2 hours faster than my first LA Marathon. That, my friends, is progress. I am so thankful for where I am right now and know the hard work that has lead me to this point. There is still more work to be done. This morning I pondered qualifying/running Boston for my 40th birthday in 2014. Who knows??? Anything is possible!
The weather for tomorrow is predicted as cloudy, cool, chance of showers, and possible gusty wind. I will take that over torrential rain any day of the year! I decided to run in my older shoes - New Balance 880- rather than my new Saucony Mirage 2. I am still deciding on my outfit. I am leaning toward shorts and compression calf sleeves with a long sleeved pink top.
May the luck of the Irish be with everyone racing this weekend!!!! This Irish girl feels pretty excited!!!!
